This Shakopee homeowner near Sweeney Elementary wanted to create a garden retreat feel in their backyard, centered around a winding gravel pathway that connects the patio to a seating area at the back of the property. The path had been loosely defined by landscape timbers that were rotting and shifting, causing gravel to spread into the lawn and garden areas.

We removed the old timbers and installed flowing curved concrete curbing along both sides of the winding path, creating smooth S-curves and gentle arcs that give the walkway a natural, organic feel. The curbing also wraps around the patio area, providing a clean transition between the patio pavers and the surrounding lawn. We used a rounded-top profile with a natural gray finish that blends seamlessly with the gravel pathway.

The finished installation gave the backyard the garden-retreat atmosphere the homeowner envisioned. The curbing keeps the gravel neatly contained within the pathway, and the flowing curves add visual interest that draws the eye through the yard. Combined with the lush perennial plantings on either side of the path, the curbing creates defined garden rooms that feel intentional and professionally designed. The homeowner said the project “finally finished” the backyard they’d been working toward for years.
